Rooms and apartments in the north of Aarhus

Grundtvigs Hus Kollegiet

Welcome to Grundtvigs Hus Kollegiet, which contains 198 cozy and well-arranged homes. The majority of the residents at the hall of residence lives in either a 1-room apartment or in a room, where they share kitchen, shower and toilet with one other person. In a few of the rentals a higher number of residents share the facilities. The building is located in the North of Aarhus close to many of the city’s educational institutions.

Many students here enjoy spending time together and socialize through common activites, such as Friday bar, board game evenings and eating together. It is completely up tp you, just how social you wish to be, but it can be a nice way to get to know your neighbours. At the hall of residence there are a wide range of common facilities, which can be used by all residence; there are among other things a laundry room, a common room and free parking.

About the dorm

Common room

‘Fælleren’ is the large shared space. It can be used for both private events and communal activities; however, all activities must be booked. This can be done via our Facebook page. Everyone is responsible for cleaning up after themselves and treating the facilities with care.

Party and bar

There are four major parties each year: the Semester Start Party (February), the Summer Party (June), the Semester Start Party (September), and the Christmas Lunch (December). In addition, a “Tour de Chambre” is organized each semester. Regular Friday bars are also held.

The bar opens at 8:00 PM (sometimes at 4:00 PM), and unlike many university bars, you’ll find COLD beers at very reasonable prices. There’s a good chance the bar is still open when other parties in town are closing, so stop by for a nightcap!

The committee is always looking for more members, so if you’d like to be part of the social life at GHK, feel free to join!

Parking

The dormitory has a parking lot. You will receive a couple of guest parking permits from the caretaker when you collect your keys.

If you have your own car, you can register it with the caretaker and obtain permission to park on site.

You are responsible for renewing your parking permit with the caretaker to avoid parking fines.

Beach volley

The dormitory has a large, beautiful beach volleyball court, which can be used by all residents of the dormitory.

Committees at the dorm

Events Committee

The dormitory’s Events Committee is responsible for all kinds of social, fun, traditional, and quirky activities throughout each semester. We organize everything from small “get-your-bike-ready-for-spring” afternoon events to larger evening arrangements such as Thanksgiving.

So far, we have, for example, served warm sweet rolls for Great Prayer Day, organized beer hunts in the garden during the Easter run, hosted hangover movie nights after parties, gone ice skating at the rink, decorated the dormitory with pumpkins for Halloween, and celebrated Christmas with æbleskiver and mulled wine during the annual decorating day.

Music Committee

The primary task of the Music Committee is to make sure the music room is up and running. Over the past few years, we have fought a good battle, and we now—following our “one-of-each principle”—have a fully functional music room that will surely suit your style, whether you play guitar, bass, drums, piano, sing, or perhaps prefer shaking eggs!

The music room is located in the basement of the common house, and the rules as well as information on how YOU can gain access are posted down there. If you have any music-related questions, don’t hesitate—just contact a member of the Music Committee.

If you have skills such as changing a guitar string, or simply want to help out, we can probably find a place for you in the committee.

Welcome Committee

The Welcome Committee is the group that welcomes new residents to the dormitory. We knock on your door and greet you, and there is often a welcome party in honor of the new residents.

As a general rule, the party will start around 7:00 PM, and around 9:00 PM the more senior residents will join the party so that you also have the opportunity to meet them.

Board games Committee

The dormitory’s absolute best committee (when it comes to baking cakes) is the Games Committee. We regularly host game nights in the common room, often with a theme, and always with coffee, tea, and cake. Game nights are always cozy and a great way to meet your neighbours and show that you are the best at Bezzerwizzer, Hint, Werewolf, puzzles, or something completely different.

The games can be borrowed. You simply need to contact a member of the Games Committee, and they will give you access to the cabinet. Remember to return the game afterwards! If you know of an amazing game that the dormitory simply must own, we would love to hear about it.

Community Dining Committee

A long-standing tradition at GHK is the communal dining, where we meet four times per semester. The menu is often two or three courses, so if your meal plan usually consists of tuna, pasta, and ketchup, sign up for communal dining for delicious food and great company. It costs 40 DKK per time, which is paid upon registration.

For one of the communal dinners, you are responsible for preparing the food yourself. You meet with your cooking group a couple of days in advance to decide on the menu, and then again on the day itself to prepare the meal together.

Garden Committee

The committee is for residents with green thumbs. In the garden, we grow both edible plants and ornamental plants. The Garden Committee has also taken over the dormitory’s greenhouse, where we grow, for example, tomatoes, chilies, and more. In addition, there are raised beds located around the dormitory filled with various edible plants. For both the greenhouse and the raised beds, residents are welcome to take what they need. However, please keep in mind that there are 197 other residents who may also want a taste.
