Criteria for Housing Applications
The criteria for who can apply for housing and when applications can be submitted are determined by RIU. The committee has been approved by Aarhus Municipality to ensure that the allocation of housing to students and other young people with special needs is handled in a consistent and appropriate manner.

Representative Council
RIU’s Representative Council, which consists of residents of student housing and other young people in education. They carry out housing policy work to ensure that there continue to be good and affordable housing options for young people.

The daily work is handled by the Executive Committee, which is elected by the Representative Council. They take care of, among other things, exemption and complaint cases, and decide on matters concerning subletting, internal transfers, and more.

Dispensation
Applicants can apply for dispensation from the allocation criteria, for example if they have physical or mental disabilities that affect their housing needs. Typically, dispensation applications concern moving up the waiting list for a specific type of housing.

Residents can also apply for dispensation from the criteria if they wish to extend their tenancy beyond the standard study period or sublet their room in special cases.

Application for Dispensation
If you have special needs that you believe entitle you to dispensation from the allocation criteria, you must send the following to RIU:

  • Documentation of your situation (e.g., a statement from a doctor, social worker, or similar).
  • Your own description of the situation.

The submitted material must explain how your special needs affect your housing situation.
